The CBD Eye Surgery is a long-standing ophthalmic practice in the heart of Sydney CBD, led by Dr Dennis Lowe. Dr Lowe is dual trained as an specialist Ophthalmologist and a Neurology physician. With over 25 years of visionary care, we have now expanded further with a total of 4 doctors and 3 Orthoptists. Our doctors offer surgical services through The Sight Foundation at The Sydney Eye Hospital – a centre of excellence in eye care in Australia, as well as St Vincent’s Private Hospital. As a team, we’re proud to offer even more services throughout our clinic.

DR DENNIS LOWE

After initially becoming a fully qualified neurologist, Dr Lowe went on to train to become an ophthalmic surgeon. He is the only practitioner in Australia to hold these dual specialties.

With vast experience, Dr Lowe has particular interest in ophthalmic surgery (cataract and laser), medical retina, neurologically related eye disease as well as general ophthalmology.

He completed his specialist training through Sydney Eye Hospital with further study at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the UK.

He currently holds teaching positions at Sydney University and UNSW affiliated teaching hospitals and holds VMO positions at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital (Sight Foundation). He is a court examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for both Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Lowe enjoys participating in charitable/pro-bono surgical training and teaching here and overseas (Vietnam Vision Project, Sight for All Foundation, Australian Health Humanitarian Aid, ACPPRC).

DR JASON CHENG

Dr Jason Cheng is a experienced surgeon with a special interest in the management of glaucoma (including trabeculectomy, tube implant, angle surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery or MIGS) and is also a highly skilled cataract surgeon.

Dr Cheng received his Bachelor of Science in Clinical Sciences from Imperial College London in 2002, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2003. He then held several positions across Australia and the UK, before undertaking his specialist ophthalmology training at Western Eye Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital in the UK. He completed his sub-specialty training through a fellowship in glaucoma at the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and Kings College Hospital in the UK and Toronto Western Hospital in Canada, where he was involved in the glaucoma teaching program for residents.

Prior to moving to Australia, Dr Cheng was a clinical lecturer at the National University of Singapore and a consultant ophthalmologist at a public hospital for 3 years. He is currently a visiting medical officer at Liverpool Hospital.

Dr Cheng has strong research interests – he has been awarded over $100,000 in research grants since 2012 – and is currently involved in research projects to improve quality of treatment for glaucoma patients through medication, laser and surgery. He has also been part of several commercial and multicentre trials as principal and co-investigator and has multiple first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as co-authoring 4 book chapters and a book on glaucoma. Dr Cheng has been invited to speak at several national and international conferences.

He speaks fluent Cantonese and basic Mandarin.

DR GERMAINE GOCK

Dr Germiane Gock is an established practitioner who has particular interests in diabetic eye disease & medical retina, glaucoma and oculoplastics. Dr Gock is also a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist (DAO) and Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME).

Dr Gock graduated from the University of Sydney with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(Honours). She was awarded the Robert Craig Prize in Surgery as an undergraduate.

Dr Gock completed Basic ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. This was followed by further Advanced surgical training in the UK. She completed a Fellowship in General Ophthalmology in Plymouth, Devon, obtained extensive experience in Medical Retina in Birmingham, UK and completed a Fellowship in Oculoplastic surgery in Oxford, UK. She was awarded Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2000. She was also awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000(by examination).

Dr Gock returned to Sydney in 2002. She has had previous public hospital appointments at Bathurst Base Hospital and Lithgow Hospital but is currently consulting only in private practice in Sydney.

Dr Gock speaks fluent Cantonese and basic Mandarin.

DR DAVID WOO

Dr David Woo is an eye surgeon with a sub-specialist expertise in cataract surgery and eyelid surgeries. He completed his medical degree from the University of New South Wales as well as a Masters degree in Ophthalmic sciences (post-graduate) from the Sydney University. Dr Woo completed his specialist qualification through Sydney Eye Hospital and underwent in depth sub-specialty training in Oculoplastics in the United Kingdom as well as in large ophthalmic departments in Asia.

His clinical and surgical interests include the treatment of cataracts, correction of eyelid malpositions (droopy eyelids, ectropions and entropions) as well as other general Ophthalmic conditions. Dr Woo is a current fellow of RANZCO and is focused on delivering excellent patient-centred care. He is also committed to ongoing Ophthalmic clinical research and has actively attended international conferences and published various research papers in peer review journals.

Dr David Woo is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
